Opening credits for two films!

In class we watched two opening credits for two films. We had to draw a time line to show when a certain name was mentioned and how they contributed to the movie, also we had to write the time it was shown. After doing these two time lines, I noticed that some people like the director were mentioned twice, this shows the significant role the director took to make the film as they are very important. A lot of the main actors and actresses were mentioned, our teacher explained that the highest paid actors and actresses get their name mentioned at the start as they want to show how important they are, an example was when we saw Brad Pitt mentioned right at the start to show that he is an A Lister!

I also learnt that opening credits take a long time, I never really noticed that when I go to watch movies because of the distraction of getting comfortable while finishing all my nibbles before the actual movie starts!but now I'm sure i will be paying attention to that now.

Editing my horror movie opening for the first time!

After a weekend of hard shooting (filming) with my partner Faban, we returned to class to do the editing. I feel that me and my partner were very organised and therefore, editing was not that hard for us, the only thing we found hard was to make the shots sequence to make sure there was no pauses and then the next shot comes in. Also we wrote down the things that were to be added into our opening and what we needed our teacher to help us with after school. Overall I believe that our first editing session went well and I hope it continues to be this smooth!

Two more effective marketing techniques for BabyScissors!

To add to one of my last posts, I have chosen two more ways to help market my horror movie opening

to reach to wider audience and make it more successful.

Print:

Putting my my horror movie in a magazine and newspaper can reach across to various audiences, young people and older more mature people. Many people read a lot of magazines and I would love to advertise my film in magazines such as OK! or STUFF magazine for men as they are the main ones that are read by men and women, also in the METRO and the EVENING STANDARD as people can see the advert on their way to work/school when they are reading them.

Website:

A website is one of the best ways to reach a wider audience as mostly everyone uses the Internet. Creating a website is a great way to connect with the fans of the movie and also to gain more profit as there will be tabs where people can buy merchandise and also download games, screen savers, music from the movie or the actual sound track. The website also helps build up the excitement of the audience by giving sneak previews, cast interviews, back stage footage and much much more! One more advantage could be that many people might see it from all around the world and gain interest therefore, resulting in the movie being distributed world wide and also a huge amount of profit.

Class thoughts on my Animatic!

When I presented to the class me and my partners animatic, they really liked it and didn't
really have a lot of things for us to improve however, they thought that we needed:

• More sound (as we only had the sounds we had recorded ourselves due to the time)
• We needed to think about how we were going to use some of the props in the opening for example the jars of blood and weired stuff

The things they thought that were good were:                              

• Our thought into how long the frame would stay on screen for as we had to make it round about the same time we would actually take to film the scene.
• They also thought our range of camera shot types were really good
• Overall they liked our whole storyline as we had taken their feedback into consideration from the last presentation and changed the ending so it would be less confusing.

Pictures of horror movie settings!

These are the images that I researched from google images. Me and my partner have not found our location yet but we have an idea of what our settings will look like, these images are not the exact place but they are close to what we want our setting to look like for our horror movie opening.

This is the kind of road we want to shoot on because the girl will be walking towards the house so we will be shooting the street when she is walking.

This is the idea for the setting of the living room where most of the scenes will take place.
This is the kind of kitchen we would want, with the fridge facing that exact way as one of the main scenes happens there.

This is the idea of the kind of door me and my partner want for the knocking on the door scene where we are introduced to both characters.

Now that i have found a distributor, I will need to know where to advertise my horror film so it can reach to as many audiences as possible!

Publicity - I would pick this because many people read magazines and newspapers. People like to read interviews about the cast and how they felt about making the film and how they feel about their fellow actors/actresses. Mostly a good gossip!

at the end people feel like they now more about the movie and know what they will be paying to watch, other than just seeing a poster and then going to watch the movie and finding it boring, plus wasting your money. There are a wide range of magazines and newspapers to advertise my horror movie, these can reach out to many people and we can have a wide range of audiences.

Media advertising - This is a great way of advertising my horror movie as many people will see it, if its on the bus stop or phone box or on an actual bus. Many people wait on bus stops everyday and waiting for the bus can sometimes be very boring so they look at the adverts, this will be good as they can see it and recommend to a friend to go and see it together. One of the best ways is to advertise it on the television as many people watch televison throughout the UK and putting the trailer on before a well known show can reach to thousands of people in the UK.

Premieres - This is good as many young people ( in our target audience) go to premieres to go see their favourite stars, these people might also bring along friends and family too. Premieres get a lot of media attention, this includes interview with characters and signing autographs for an audience buzz! some TV programmes do a special on premieres so people who cannot attend can see it from their homes, not the movie but the arrivals and the interviews.

The film industry

The BFI http://www.bfi.org.uk/about/  is probably one of the more straight forward ways in which film makers can access funding.  Finding distributors can be found through various means,more readily available is the use of the Internet.
The current project I'm working on falls under the horror genre and in an ideal world, Paramount Pictures would best distribute my film because looking at their past productions in that category such as the hit horror franchise Friday the 13th, it was well  received.
It has spawned numerous remakes and has a current world revenue of $465,239,523 from movies alone. This is besides the gross revenue produced from merchandise and literature stemming from the movies.

Me and my partner Faban did a presentation on Prezi about our horror movie opening. We included the plot of the movie, the setting, the characters, the sounds that will be used and a clip from YouTube. The whole class seemed to enjoy the clip as they had never seen it before and it was scary and funny too!

After our Presentation we got to listen to our peer's opinions on our horror movie opening. We had a lot of comments about making it a bit more scary even though our teacher thought our idea was good because it is only the opening of the movie of the whole film. Overall I think that the comments were good because they helped us know what to improve as they are like an audience!

Horror/thriller movie expectations!

In a typical horror/thriller movie i would expect to see:

The Green Screen Effect!

Today we had a man come in to introduce us to green screening and how to use a green screen while editing. I found this really fun and interesting as we got to try out by shooting a small video and editing it while using the green screen!
My group decided to do a titanic theme and I found our acting really professional.
The other groups also made amazing videos which were really funny. From this lesson I learnt that when shooting a video on green screen, you have to make sure that the background colour is not too bright or the same colour as your clothes! this is why my teeth are blue.Overall I had a great time learning how to do green screening and might consider putting it in my horror movie opening as it would bring something different to the video.

Survey findings

In my survey I found out that mainly girls like horror movies and they prefer to watch them with their friends.
also it gave me a picture of what my horror/thriller movie opening should look like and what the young people that I am aiming my film towards would like to see in their scary movies.

When I made my survey, I tried to include all points and was exited to find out what kind of horror/thriller movies people like and what they would like to see.

The only thing that I found hard was getting people to do my questionnaire and logging into the survey monkey website.

Editing fever!

In my lesson early this week we were given a task to go around school and shoot a mini video based on one word given to each group. At first our whole group was very exited to have the video camera, but when it came down to shooting we all had different ideas and found it hard to organise ourselves as it was the first time ever shooting a video in our media class. After a few minutes we were able to organise ourselves and make a great video!

In the next lesson we went to the computers to start discovering the world of media. We started editing our mini video, our teacher went through it with us, after a while i felt very technical and was exited to learn more so we could edit our perfect video!
